What is different about walking on the beach in winter? There is a ring of snow around the beach. The footprints that we leave are actually booted against the cold sand. There are fewer people. There are different types of seabirds.



But a big difference is the air. The cold, crisp temperature and snow change the air quality. The snow in its precipitous state tends to remove particulates from the air as it drifts to the ground. This gives an almost surreal quality to the air's clarity.



With a lack of people, it gives us time to talk to our walking partners. As we perambulate, we reflect as does the mirror sheen of water does with the sky. That time of reflection is what makes Winter on the beach so much different. What we do with that reflection inspires the metaphorical footprints we leave behind.
